The Book of Jeremiah, Chapter 29ΙΕΡΕΜΙΑΣ ΚΘ′

Each verse opens with the running Greek, an English translation, and a discourse note (its connective, relation, and role in the argument). Below follows the word-by-word breakdown in six tiers: gloss, case (color), parsing, syntax, semantic force, and a lexical note.

Case Nominative Genitive Dative Accusative Vocative Verb (no case) Indeclinable

Discourse notes head each verse: relation · connective · clause-flow. Indentation marks prominence — flush-left = main line of argument; indented = supporting / subordinate material.

Theme

Philistia is overwhelmed by the northern flood already commissioned by the Lord.

Translation & textual notes

The Greek text of Jeremiah 29 follows the standard critical text of the Septuagint as established in the Rahlfs-Hanhart edition (Septuaginta, rev. ed. 2006), an ancient and public-domain text; the critical apparatus is not reproduced. In the Septuagint order this chapter is a short but concentrated oracle against the Philistines. The imagery is dominated by inundation and by the Lord's sword. Waters rise from the north like a torrent, the land and its cities are overwhelmed, and the Philistine coast is left without effective aid from Tyre, Sidon, or the remaining islands. Gaza and Ashkelon appear as emblematic sites of shaving, silence, and panic, while the closing dialogue with the Lord's sword makes clear that the destruction is not random violence but a commission already assigned by God. Greek versification is followed here.
