The nations are judged, and Zion stands secure in final restoration.

Translation & textual notes

Joel 4 is the Septuagint's final vision of international reckoning and Zion's secure restoration. The chapter opens with the Lord gathering the nations into the valley of judgment because they scattered Israel, partitioned the land, and trafficked Judah's sons and daughters. The middle movement reverses that violence back upon Tyre, Sidon, Philistia, and the nations more broadly, then summons the peoples into a mock mustering for war only to meet the Lord's harvest and winepress judgment. The close turns from cosmic shaking to covenant refuge: the Lord roars from Zion, sanctifies Jerusalem against further profanation, pours out agricultural abundance, and fixes Judah's dwelling forever while avenging innocent blood. The Greek keeps the chapter's stark polarity between hostile nations and the protected people of God while emphasizing the forensic setting of divine adjudication.
