The Book of Micah, Chapter 2ΜΙΧΑΙΑΣ Β′

Each verse opens with the running Greek, an English translation, and a discourse note (its connective, relation, and role in the argument). Below follows the word-by-word breakdown in six tiers: gloss, case (color), parsing, syntax, semantic force, and a lexical note.

Case Nominative Genitive Dative Accusative Vocative Verb (no case) Indeclinable

Discourse notes head each verse: relation · connective · clause-flow. Indentation marks prominence — flush-left = main line of argument; indented = supporting / subordinate material.

Theme

Predators seize inheritance until the Lord gathers and leads his remnant.

Translation & textual notes

A compact indictment of predatory social power is followed by a surprising turn toward gathering and release. It begins by exposing those who scheme oppression at night and seize fields, houses, and inheritances by daylight; it then answers them with a matching oracle of dispossession, mourning, and expulsion from the land. Yet the closing lines pivot toward hope: the scattered remnant of Jacob and Israel will be gathered like a flock, and the Lord himself will go before them as king and leader through the breached gate.

They became those who devise troubles and work evils upon their beds; and at daybreak they accomplished them, because they did not raise their hands to God.

Indictmentasyndeton
The chapter begins with premeditated injustice. Evil is conceived in the private space of the bed and executed publicly at dawn, showing how power converts desire into action.

And they coveted fields and plundered orphans, and they oppressed houses and plundered a man and his house, a man and his inheritance.
