Theme

The Davidic lord is enthroned at God's right hand and sent from Zion to rule in the midst of enemies.

Translation & textual notes

The Greek text of Psalms 109 follows the standard critical text of the Septuagint as established in the Rahlfs-Hanhart edition (Septuaginta, rev. ed. 2006), an ancient and public-domain text; the critical apparatus is not reproduced. This short royal oracle presents the Davidic lord enthroned at God's right hand, empowered from Zion to rule in the midst of enemies. The center of the psalm combines royal power with priestly permanence by means of the irrevocable oath that names the king a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek. The final verses return to conquest and judgment, portraying victorious rule over kings and nations before ending with the image of refreshed strength and uplifted head. Versification follows the LXX.
