The Book of Psalms, Chapter 137ΨΑΛΜΟΙ ΡΛΖ′

Each verse opens with the running Greek, an English translation, and a discourse note (its connective, relation, and role in the argument). Below follows the word-by-word breakdown in six tiers: gloss, case (color), parsing, syntax, semantic force, and a lexical note.

Case Nominative Genitive Dative Accusative Vocative Verb (no case) Indeclinable

Discourse notes head each verse: relation · connective · clause-flow. Indentation marks prominence — flush-left = main line of argument; indented = supporting / subordinate material.

Theme

Answered prayer becomes public praise, widening from one grateful worshiper to kings who will learn the Lord's ways.

Translation & textual notes

The Greek text of Psalms 137 follows the standard critical text of the Septuagint as established in the Rahlfs-Hanhart edition (Septuaginta, rev. ed. 2006), an ancient and public-domain text; the critical apparatus is not reproduced. Answered prayer becomes public praise, widening from one grateful worshiper to kings who will learn the Lord's ways. The singer vows wholehearted confession because the Lord heard his words, bows toward the holy temple, and praises the Lord's mercy, truth, and magnified word. From there the poem widens toward kings of the earth who will one day hear and sing the Lord's ways. The closing lines hold together transcendence and nearness: the high Lord sees the humble, revives his servant in trouble, stretches out his hand against enemies, and will complete what concerns the one who trusts his enduring mercy. Versification follows the LXX.
