The Book of Psalms, Chapter 138ΨΑΛΜΟΙ ΡΛΗ′

Each verse opens with the running Greek, an English translation, and a discourse note (its connective, relation, and role in the argument). Below follows the word-by-word breakdown in six tiers: gloss, case (color), parsing, syntax, semantic force, and a lexical note.

Case Nominative Genitive Dative Accusative Vocative Verb (no case) Indeclinable

Discourse notes head each verse: relation · connective · clause-flow. Indentation marks prominence — flush-left = main line of argument; indented = supporting / subordinate material.

Theme

God's exhaustive knowledge and inescapable presence lead to wonder, self-scrutiny, and a plea for guidance.

Translation & textual notes

The Greek text of Psalms 138 follows the standard critical text of the Septuagint as established in the Rahlfs-Hanhart edition (Septuaginta, rev. ed. 2006), an ancient and public-domain text; the critical apparatus is not reproduced. God's exhaustive knowledge and inescapable presence lead to wonder at creation, repudiation of bloodguilt, and a final plea to be searched and led in the everlasting way. After the superscription, the psalm traces how God knows sitting, rising, thoughts, paths, speech, beginnings, and endings, then asks where anyone could flee from such presence in heaven, Hades, dawn, sea, darkness, or night. It turns next to the mystery of personal formation in the womb and the wonder of God's creative knowledge. The final movement shifts abruptly into loyalty against bloodthirsty men and closes with a prayer that the God who knows everything would search, test, expose any lawless way, and guide the speaker in the everlasting path. Versification follows the LXX.
