Each verse opens with the running Greek, an English translation, and a discourse note (its connective, relation, and role in the argument). Below follows the word-by-word breakdown in six tiers: gloss, case (color), parsing, syntax, semantic force, and a lexical note.

Case Nominative Genitive Dative Accusative Vocative Verb (no case) Indeclinable

Discourse notes head each verse: relation · connective · clause-flow. Indentation marks prominence — flush-left = main line of argument; indented = supporting / subordinate material.

Theme

Earthly revolt meets the Lord's decree as his anointed king is established over the nations.

Translation & textual notes

The Greek text of Psalms 2 follows the standard critical text of the Septuagint as established in the Rahlfs-Hanhart edition (Septuaginta, rev. ed. 2006), an ancient and public-domain text; the critical apparatus is not reproduced. A royal enthronement psalm that stages the collision between earthly revolt and the Lord's unshaken decree. The poem opens with nations and rulers in noisy conspiracy, shifts to the heavenly response of derision and wrath, and then gives voice to the king established on Zion. At the center stands the divine declaration of sonship and inheritance: the anointed ruler reigns not by human coalition but by the Lord's own appointment. The closing summons turns the psalm into warning and wisdom, calling kings to reverent service before anger breaks out and ending, as Psalm 1 began, with beatitude for those who take refuge in God. Versification follows the LXX.
