The Psalms of Solomon, Chapter 16ΨΑΛΜΟΙ ΣΟΛΟΜΩΝΤΟΣ ΙϚ′

Each verse opens with the running Greek, an English translation, and a discourse note (its connective, relation, and role in the argument). Below follows the word-by-word breakdown in six tiers: gloss, case (color), parsing, syntax, semantic force, and a lexical note.

Case Nominative Genitive Dative Accusative Vocative Verb (no case) Indeclinable

Discourse notes head each verse: relation · connective · clause-flow. Indentation marks prominence — flush-left = main line of argument; indented = supporting / subordinate material.

Theme

Rescued from collapse, the worshiper asks for governed desire, speech, and conduct.

Translation & textual notes

A compact prayer of rescue and moral preservation begins by describing a moment of dangerous inward drift, where drowsiness toward God almost becomes a slide into death, but the Lord interrupts that descent with saving mercy and a sharp awakening. The middle of the psalm turns into a sequence of petitions for holiness: protection from sexual temptation, truthful speech, freedom from destructive anger, and endurance under divine discipline. The closing lines broaden the personal prayer into a wisdom-like maxim about the righteous person who bears testing and receives mercy. In that movement from near ruin to disciplined steadiness, the chapter binds salvation, moral vigilance, and patient endurance together.
