Each verse opens with the running Greek, an English translation, and a discourse note (its connective, relation, and role in the argument). Below follows the word-by-word breakdown in six tiers: gloss, case (color), parsing, syntax, semantic force, and a lexical note.

Case Nominative Genitive Dative Accusative Vocative Verb (no case) Indeclinable

Discourse notes head each verse: relation · connective · clause-flow. Indentation marks prominence — flush-left = main line of argument; indented = supporting / subordinate material.

Theme

The poor find refuge in God, whose generous rule humbles anxious grasping.

Translation & textual notes

A prayer of praise and dependence blesses God's name for righteous judgments, then confesses that the Lord alone is the refuge of the poor and the giver from whom every human portion comes. Several images reinforce this creaturely dependence: no one takes spoil from the strong unless it is granted, no one exceeds the measure God has assigned, and even birds, fish, beasts, rulers, and the poor are all fed by the same divine hand. The psalm therefore moves from distress to confession, from petition to theology of providence, and finally to an ethic of measured sufficiency. Human kindness is often small and delayed, but God's gift is rich, unstinting, and spread across the whole earth in goodness. The closing beatitude on moderation sharpens the chapter's sapiential edge: abundance can tempt a person into sin, while measured righteousness is enough and bears the Lord's blessing. The final mood is communal joy, with Israel's welfare tied to the Lord's kingship and goodness.
