The Psalms of Solomon, Chapter 7ΨΑΛΜΟΙ ΣΟΛΟΜΩΝΤΟΣ Ζ′

Each verse opens with the running Greek, an English translation, and a discourse note (its connective, relation, and role in the argument). Below follows the word-by-word breakdown in six tiers: gloss, case (color), parsing, syntax, semantic force, and a lexical note.

Case Nominative Genitive Dative Accusative Vocative Verb (no case) Indeclinable

Discourse notes head each verse: relation · connective · clause-flow. Indentation marks prominence — flush-left = main line of argument; indented = supporting / subordinate material.

Theme

Israel seeks God's presence, measured discipline, and shelter from the nations.

Translation & textual notes

A brief but concentrated communal prayer shaped by covenant dependence distinguishes between God's own fatherly discipline and destructive domination by the nations. That distinction is crucial for the poem's theology. Israel can submit to divine correction because the Lord remains merciful and has not renounced his people, but the nations must not be allowed to interpret that correction as abandonment or to trample the holy inheritance. The language of God's indwelling name, protective presence, and enduring pity places the prayer within a sanctuary-centered covenant imagination: where the divine name remains in the midst of the people, mercy and protection are still possible. The final movement joins submission and hope by confessing life under God's yoke and rod while still expecting the promised day of help for the house of Jacob. The result is a compact prayer in which judgment, mercy, election, and future deliverance are held tightly together.
