Theme

Wisdom 10 is a compressed salvation-history hymn in which wisdom is traced through the foundational righteous figures and scenes of the biblical narrative.

Translation & textual notes

The Greek text of Wisdom of Solomon 10 follows the standard critical text of the Septuagint as established in the Rahlfs-Hanhart edition (Septuaginta, rev. ed. 2006), an ancient and public-domain text; the critical apparatus is not reproduced. Wisdom 10 is a compressed salvation-history hymn in which wisdom is traced through the foundational righteous figures and scenes of the biblical narrative. Adam, Noah, Abraham, Lot, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, and Israel at the sea all become witnesses to the same claim: wisdom preserves, guides, vindicates, and brings the righteous through dangers that consume the wicked. The chapter therefore functions as a narrative bridge between the earlier praise of wisdom's nature and the later extended contrasts between God's people and their enemies. In its Septuagint form, the chapter is not retelling biblical history for its own sake; it is rereading that history as a unified demonstration that wisdom is the hidden agent of creation's preservation, covenant fidelity, and exodus deliverance, while folly leaves only ruin and public memorials of judgment.
