The Wisdom of Solomon, Chapter 9ΣΟΦΙΑ ΣΟΛΟΜΩΝΤΟΣ Θ′

Each verse opens with the running Greek, an English translation, and a discourse note (its connective, relation, and role in the argument). Below follows the word-by-word breakdown in six tiers: gloss, case (color), parsing, syntax, semantic force, and a lexical note.

Case Nominative Genitive Dative Accusative Vocative Verb (no case) Indeclinable

Discourse notes head each verse: relation · connective · clause-flow. Indentation marks prominence — flush-left = main line of argument; indented = supporting / subordinate material.

Theme

A Solomonic prayer asks for enthroned wisdom because rule, judgment, and true knowledge all depend on divine gift.

Translation & textual notes

The Greek text of Wisdom of Solomon 9 follows the standard critical text of the Septuagint as established in the Rahlfs-Hanhart edition (Septuaginta, rev. ed. 2006); the ancient text itself is public domain, and the critical apparatus is not reproduced. The chapter is the book's great prayer for wisdom, cast in Solomonic voice and joining royal vocation, temple theology, anthropology, and pneumatology in a single sustained petition. The speaker invokes the Creator who made all things by his word, asks for the wisdom who sits beside God's throne, confesses the weakness and brevity of human judgment, and climaxes by declaring that no one knows God's counsel unless wisdom and the holy Spirit are given from above. In the argument of Wisdom as a whole, the chapter supplies the positive theological center that answers the false reasoning of the ungodly elsewhere in the book: right rule, right worship, and right discernment all depend on wisdom's divine presence.
