Case Nominative Genitive Dative Accusative Vocative Verb (no case) Indeclinable

Theme

Wisdom of Solomon 8 celebrates wisdom as cosmic ruler, chosen companion, teacher of virtue, interpreter of history, source of royal competence, and giver of immortal memory.

Translation & textual notes

Wisdom of Solomon 8 celebrates wisdom as cosmic ruler, chosen companion, teacher of virtue, interpreter of history, source of royal competence, and giver of immortal memory. The chapter is shaped as an extended first-person meditation in which the speaker desires wisdom as a bride and then enumerates the political, moral, intellectual, and personal goods that flow from life with her. Yet the closing verses keep the chapter from collapsing into self-confidence: even natural gifts and disciplined aspiration are not enough on their own, because self-mastery itself must be received from God.
