Wisdom 6 resumes the book's address to rulers with unusual intensity. The first half of the chapter warns kings, judges, and tyrants that authority is derivative, accountable, and judged more severely the higher it stands.

Translation & textual notes

The Greek text of Wisdom of Solomon 6 follows the standard critical text of the Septuagint as established in the Rahlfs-Hanhart edition (Septuaginta, rev. ed. 2006), an ancient and public-domain text; the critical apparatus is not reproduced. Wisdom 6 resumes the book's address to rulers with unusual intensity. The first half of the chapter warns kings, judges, and tyrants that authority is derivative, accountable, and judged more severely the higher it stands. Yet the chapter does not stop at threat. It turns that warning into one of the book's great invitations by portraying wisdom as radiant, seekable, and already moving toward those who desire her. A carefully ordered chain then links desire for instruction to love, law-keeping, incorruption, nearness to God, and true kingship. The closing promise to reveal what wisdom is and how she came to be prepares the more extended hymnic and autobiographical celebrations that follow. Taken as a whole, the chapter argues that political stability and human flourishing depend not on force or prestige but on reverent teachability before divine wisdom.
