The Book of Isaiah, Chapter 41ΗΣΑΪΑΣ ΜΑ′

Each verse opens with the running Greek, an English translation, and a discourse note (its connective, relation, and role in the argument). Below follows the word-by-word breakdown in six tiers: gloss, case (color), parsing, syntax, semantic force, and a lexical note.

Case Nominative Genitive Dative Accusative Vocative Verb (no case) Indeclinable

Discourse notes head each verse: relation · connective · clause-flow. Indentation marks prominence — flush-left = main line of argument; indented = supporting / subordinate material.

Theme

The Lord challenges the nations, shames idols, and strengthens his chosen servant Israel.

Translation & textual notes

Isaiah 41 is shaped as a trial speech in which the Lord summons the coastlands and their rulers, exposes the impotence of idols, and reassures Israel of its election. The chapter moves from the international scene to the intimate address of Jacob, so that the same divine sovereignty that raises conquerors and topples kings also upholds the weak remnant by the hand. A sustained polemic against images runs through the middle and closing sections: craftsmen encourage one another, but their gods cannot interpret the past or disclose the future. Against that silence stands the Lord, who names the generations from the beginning, promises water in the wilderness, and turns Israel itself into the instrument of his victory. The chapter therefore binds monotheistic argument, historical providence, and covenant consolation into a single prophetic unit.
