The Book of Isaiah, Chapter 59ΗΣΑΪΑΣ ΝΘ′

Each verse opens with the running Greek, an English translation, and a discourse note (its connective, relation, and role in the argument). Below follows the word-by-word breakdown in six tiers: gloss, case (color), parsing, syntax, semantic force, and a lexical note.

Case Nominative Genitive Dative Accusative Vocative Verb (no case) Indeclinable

Discourse notes head each verse: relation · connective · clause-flow. Indentation marks prominence — flush-left = main line of argument; indented = supporting / subordinate material.

Theme

Sin blocks salvation until the Lord arises as warrior and redeemer.

Translation & textual notes

Isaiah 59 is a tightly structured indictment and confession that turns into a divine-warrior oracle. The Septuagint sharpens the chapter's moral logic by piling up forensic vocabulary such as κρισις, δικαιοσυνη, and αληθεια, then answers the communal lament with the Lord's own intervention. The closing covenant promise binds deliverance, prophetic speech, and enduring posterity together.

Surely the hand of the Lord is not too weak to save, nor has his ear grown heavy so that it cannot hear.

Assertionasyndeton
The chapter opens by denying that the Lord's power or attentiveness is the problem.
